CO-OPERATION
BalkanKult Foundation is in progress of making the Calendar of cultural manifestations of Vojvodina Province for year 2006. The Calendar gathers information on cultural events in Vojvodina in various fields, together with the numerous minority manifestations.
The project is being done in cooperation with the Institute for culture in Vojvodina.
MANIFESTATIONAL CULTURE
In every cultural pattern an honorary position belongs to culture manifestations and festivals. Former folk festivities, carnivals, assemblies and contests, today institutionalised in cultural manifestations, festivals, reviews, assemblies and competitions have not lost anything of their social significance. On the contrary, increasingly large number of festivals and other cultural manifestations held worldwide today – on local, regional and international level, prove their exceptional significance for cultural life and cultural production, and, more and more for economic development of contemporary societies, too.
«Festive culture» in the form of cultural manifestations and festivals in our environment underwent its affirmation towards the end of the 1960s and at the beginning of the 1970s. During this period, traditional manifestations obtained contemporary form, and many new ones were founded. This process was a consequence of a favourable general economic situation, as well as the ambition of political and cultural circles, but it must be admitted that it went in a somewhat unorganised manner.
Despite of observed problems, cultural manifestations, especially in the period of the 70s and the first half of the 80s, enriched and, in many environments, promoted cultural life. Sometimes the manifestations themselves were developed to such an extent that they absorbed almost all available budget resources for culture of local community. Thus, cultural manifestations - «crowded events of everyday occurrence», imposed themselves as a specific pattern of community’s cultural life.
In the course of the last decade, most manifestations were facing an uncertain status and financial position, and many of them, especially on local level, had to limit their programs, or even to freeze their activities for a certain period, which in many environments, especially in small ones, impoverished cultural life!
A calendar is a mosaic survey of 142 manifestations in the areas of film, theater, music, literature, visual arts and folklore. Considering the number of included events, it can be freely concluded that it is about a specific review of the most important standing cultural manifestations, namely, an inventory of «manifestational culture».
The calendar, so to speak, contains almost all traditional and contemporary manifestations of festive culture – of international and regional, as well as city and local significance.
A large number, wide variety and dynamics of the included events, namely, their diversity in respect to areas, types, artistic scopes, performers, organizers, target groups of participants and spectators, as well as venues, approach a faithful survey of artistic and creative possibilities of cultures and cultural life in Vojvodina.
