Development of the private collection/museum in Vojvodina - Pilot research

Conducted in November 2009

During November 2009 the Balkankult Foundation conducted a pilot study on the development of the private collection - museum in Vojvodina - a basis for small and family businesses. The aim of the pilot study was for the forthcoming round table to come up with basic information and collect data on the museums in Vojvodina, which are related to their current status and role in the cultural life of Vojvodina.

Collections in Vojvodina are characterized by diversity both in conception and in collected artifacts. Concerning the time spent collecting items, the longest period is 30, and the shortest 10 years, but all speak in favor of the persistence and perseverance of collectors. In collections in Vojvodina there are anywhere from 100 up to 15,000 items, an average of about 3,000. Results are directed towards defining the conditions and criteria for sustainable development of mixed economy in the production sector and the provision of cultural services industries. The stress is on the importance of the decentralization process of cultural production, strengthening the local economy through the creation of integrated value chain of cultural industries, and the necessity of making a feasibility study. It would help collectors if a team of two to three members, experts, participated in giving insight into all the available legal opportunities for organizing and operating.
