The DRC summer school
Regional Cooperation along the Danube - Culture, Education,
July 3-10 Vienna

Report, Jovana Radovanovic

From the period of July 3-10, I have attended summer school in Vienna (The DCR summer school) which is being organized for the eighth year by the IDM Institute (Institute for the Danube Region and Central Europe) in cooperation with Internacional House Pecs.
The mission of this project is to promote regional cooperation among young scientists of Central Europe, establishing a network of perspective and ambitious science students who will work on economic, political, technological and cultural issues of Danube cooperation.
The eighth edition of the summer school was focused on the EU Danube Strategy (adopted in December 2010), its implementation and practice, possible problems and challenges that the Danube region countries will face.
The summer school provided an excellent platform for cooperation for over twenty participants from twelve Danube countries, who have debated the following topics in four workshops:
1. Regional cooperation along the Danube - Culture, Education, Science
2. History and Geopolitics in the Danube region
3. Economy vs. The Environment: Social and Economic challenges of the Danube region
4. Danube Strategy - How much stronger can Europe be?
(New possibilities for regional cooperation and European integrations)
I attended the workshop called: Regional Cooperation along the Danube-Culture, Education, Science) which focused on the socio-cultural potentials of Danube countries as well as the ways in which they can be realized in practice. I presented my work on the project Danube - Route of Culture, emphasizing the significance of this project for international cooperation.
In the context of a 20-minute presentation in English, I have presented to the participants the basic goals and phases of the project, its sustainability, as well as the mission of the Balkankult organization, as the official project leader. The comments I have recieved were very positive, indicating that this was an example of good practice which warranted regional promotion.
